From what I've gathered from Shark Week on discovery over the years, most attacks don't seem to be the shark actually hunting for food. Rather, they explore phenomena in the water by taking a bite and assessing it. Then again, I've heard stories of sharks following people afloat in emergency rafts for days hoping to get a snack.

I found this post after the recent shark attack in Sydney, Australia and i thought i would share my one and only shark encounter. It's not an attack but a close call (in my opinion). In 2008 i was surfing about 100 meters off shore near Childers Cove in Mepunga, Australia, when i noticed a seal breach the surface about 50 meters away in a panic.

After a nice fight, I'm looking down at the biggest blacktip shark I've seen with my own eyes. Easily 6ft+ and 150lbs. We decided that would be a good way to end our trip, had a beer, and went to bed.
