Teamed with special tang-mounted adjustable sights, such as the Creedmoor, the .45-70 Sharps became a hard-hitting long-range weapon capable of accurately striking targets up to 1,000 yards downrange. That made the 1874 Sharps ideal for hunting buffalo and other large game.
This rifle includes an MVA tang mounted Vernier Style micrometer rear sight with a Long Range 4.5” Staff with 3.5” of adjustment, a “small” eye disc and a fire blued base. Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture is a two piece smooth “Fancy” walnut.
Among the Sharps 1874 models you can find the Sporting model with octagonal blued barrel, adjustable front sight and double set trigger. The Infantry and Cavalry models have a fixed front sight and round barrel retained by steel bands.
The 30-inch barrel on the Pedersoli 1874 Sharps rifle provides an extended sight radius, which contributes to improved accuracy and precision at longer distances. The longer barrel length also helps maximize the velocity and energy of the .45-70 cartridge.
Outfitted with double set-triggers and Vernier tang sights, the heavy barreled Sharps were extremely accurate and could be employed at long range to take selected buffalo without spooking the herd. But, it was the fight at Adobe Walls in 1874 that made the Sharps rifle a legend.
The rear sight is a flip-up ladder sight marked from 2-8 with a small notch low buckhorn sight when the ladder is folded down. Both front and rear sights are dovetailed into the barrel. This rifle also includes a tang mounted Stevens Style Mid Range Peep sight with “Small” eye disc.
