18 Ιουν 2023 · #1 Step Flashing. Step flashing has a shape of a rectangle with a 90-degree bend in the center. The most common locations for its application are chimneys and wall intersections. The primary purpose of step flashing is to protect vulnerable areas where water can penetrate, such as the junction between a roof and a chimney or wall.
Flashing is required at all roof-wall intersections. Either continuous L-metal flashing or step flashing is used to prevent water intrusion into the wall where a sloped roof intersects a vertical wall. Step flashing is used with shingle roofs; continuous flashing is used with metal and rubber membrane roofs.
Install step and kick-out flashing at all roof-wall intersections to protect walls from water intrusion, and install boot or collar flashing at all roof penetrations to protect roofs from leaks. Install corrosion-resistant flashing pieces that are overlapped in a shingle fashion.
