History. Belgium takes its name from the Belgae, a group of Celts who settled in the region during prehistoric times. Germanic Franks took control of the area in the 400s ad and converted the people to Christianity. Belgium was later divided into many independent territories.

History. Belgium takes its name from the Belgae, the early Celtic tribes who had settled in the area of the Low Countries during prehistoric times. A Roman army led by Julius Caesar conquered them in 52 bc.
