16 Φεβ 2022 · Since the end of last week, 100,000 fraudulent telephone calls have been detected in our country. Behind calls from legitimate Belgian telephone numbers, other mostly foreign numbers turn out to be hidden, whereby these callers try to fraudulently obtain personal data from the called parties.
The CCB has been counting on the general public's cooperation for years to report suspicious messages. Every day, we receive thousands of suspicious emails. In 2022, 6 million messages were forwarded to suspicious@safeonweb.be. From these messages, we were able to detect no less than 665,000 suspicious URLs.
Every day we receive thousands of suspicious e-mails. In 2021, 4,500,000 messages were forwarded to suspicious@safeonweb.be . In 2022, this figure rose further to 6 million messages, resulting in the detection of more than 1.5 million suspicious URLs, an average of 15,000 messages analysed per day.
25 Ιαν 2024 · Almost ten million phishing messages – an online fraud in which scammers try to trick internet users into revealing sensitive personal information – were forwarded to the dedicated email address 'verdacht@safeonweb.be' run by the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium (CCB).
7 Ιαν 2021 · Nearly twice as many possible cases of phishing or internet fraud were reported in Belgium in 2020 as in 2019. In total, 3,225,234 emails were sent to Safeonweb, a website linked to Belgium’s centre for cyber security, in which people flagged suspicious messages, or more than 8,800 per day.
6 Ιουν 2023 · Phishing attacks accounted for roughly a quarter (23%) of all cases of fraud, while unsolicited phone calls were responsible for 20% and online sales fraud for 15% of all scams respectively.
ECC Belgium fights against fraud. We inform and raise awareness among consumers, and we provide them with tools, such as the WebshopCheck, to prevent scams. But the real fight against scams is in the hands of the enforcement services and specialist organisations.
