13 Φεβ 2024 · Hazardous levels of respirable dust can be released into the air when working with materials that contain silica. Silicosis, an irreversible but preventable lung disease, is caused by inhalation of RCS. Work exposures to RCS also cause other serious diseases, including lung cancer.

This includes controlling dust levels below the permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 50 µg/m 3 (micrograms of silica per cubic meter of air) as an 8-hour time weighted average.
