Work with your employer to prevent silicosis at your worksite. Use engineering controls installed by your employer to reduce silica dust levels, and make sure they are properly maintained. Tell your employer when they aren't working properly.
18 Ιουν 2024 · Beginning this week, mining companies across the country are required to halve the amount of toxic silica dust their workers can be exposed to. The new exposure limit comes amid an epidemic of severe black lung disease among coal miners in central Appalachia.
OSHA issued a final rule on March 24, 2016, to improve protections for workers from exposure to silica on the job. The rule limits the permissible exposure limit for respirable crystalline silica to 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air, which is averaged over an 8-hour shift.
