25 Οκτ 2024 · The Union won the American Civil War. The war effectively ended in April 1865 when Confederate General surrendered his troops to Union General at Appomattox Court House in Virginia. The final surrender of Confederate troops on the western periphery came in Galveston, Texas, on June 2.

The American state of Virginia became a prominent part of the Confederacy when it joined during the American Civil War. As a Southern slave-holding state, Virginia held the state convention to deal with the secession crisis and voted against secession on April 4, 1861.
