Singapore won the gold medal in the 1954 Asian Games, beating favourite Japan, 4–2 in the finals. [1] In the 1986 Asian Games, Singapore won the bronze medal on better goal difference comparing to the 4th placed team Iran. [2]

In water polo, the playing area is to be 30m by 20m and the pool must be a minimum of 2m deep. Each team have 13 players, with one goalkeeper and six field players participating at any one time.
