Single motherhood has changed, from an aberration or a tragedy to a way of life, a perfectly ordinary way to raise children. And that is what each of these books is addressing: how single motherhood has shifted in the United States, to a choice, a value, a different attempt at the American dream.
By looking at the circum-stances of single-parent families across many countries, this volume sheds light on important questions pertain-ing to child poverty and income inequality, the role of public assistance in supporting single-parent families, and the impact of this assistance on employment and marriage.
