I agree that I-5 over Siskiyou Pass is an easy drive except during winter...and, even then, is no problem if it isn't snowing or icy. It's about a half hour from Ashland to Yreka. The passes between Roseburg and Grants Pass are more twisty. 97 is an easier drive if you find it more convenient.
