Try the Black Ant Sword or the Salt Morning Star. Both are good one handed weapons in my opinion. Edit: Depending on your level, the Spider Fang Dagger is also good and the Insect Hammer/Insect Axe should also not be discounted.

Any Tier III weapon is better than a Tier II weapon regardless of creatures weakness. If you are needing light during a fight then try using an upgraded Firefly Head Lamp and avoid using a torches, that way you can switch weapons and still have light, especially underground.
If you're earlier game, the mosquito needle or the stinger spear are probably your best bets. Using arrows and a little high ground you can get on and off of works well. Just hop up and shoot em and then when they run off hop down and wait for it to come back, rinse and repeat
