8 Αυγ 2008 · The description of sleep continuity with log-linear and multistate analysis of the sleep hypnogram suggests that such methods can identify differences in sleep structure that are not evident with conventional sleep-stage summaries.
1 Δεκ 2023 · Sleep stage distribution, sleep cycles, and fragmentation are strong predictors of how an expert interprets a hypnogram. By comparing hypnograms not solely on an epoch-by-epoch basis, but also on these more specific features that drive the evaluation by experts, performance assessment of (automatic) sleep-staging and surrogate sleep trackers ...
In spite of normal sleep cycling and only minor disruption of sleep continuity, the hypnogram clearly illustrates a consistent pattern of REM-related hypoxemia during sleep due to central and obstructive apneas. On a hypnogram, a sleep cycle is usually around 90 minutes and there are four to six cycles of REM/NREM stages that occur during a major period of sleep. Most SWS occurs in the first one or two cycles; this is the deepest period of sleep.
1 Σεπ 2015 · Currently, the field of sleep science broadly generalizes a typical sleep progression as Wake (W, on the hypnogram axis) to Stage 1 (1) to Stage 2 (2) to Stage Slow-wave (S) back to Stage 2 and then Rapid Eye Movement (R). The progression makes up one sleep cycle, which lasts approximately 60–90 min and repeats through the night.
8 Δεκ 2023 · Each sleep stage plays a part in allowing the mind and body to wake up refreshed. Understanding the sleep cycle also helps explain how certain sleep disorders, including insomnia and obstructive sleep apnea, can impact a person’s sleep and health.
for transitioning between rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM (NREM) sleep,5 adequately characterizing sleep-stage transitions is a priority to better define the influence of specific factors (e.g., age and sex) on normal sleep structure and orga-nization.
