8 Αυγ 2008 · To characterize nocturnal event histories in the sleep hypnogram, two distinct methods were employed: multistate survival analysis and log-linear models.
1 Δεκ 2023 · Overall, the presence of REM, N2, sleep cycles, and N3 were associated with a normal sleep structure by experts. In contrast, wake, N1, and overall sleep fragmentation (i.e. a high amount of sleep stage changes per hour) contributed to an evaluation of an abnormal hypnogram.
Review of the hypnogram permits rapid assessment of sleep architecture and the influence of sleep state or position upon the frequency of desaturation or apnea. This hypnogram illustrates sleep cycling in an 8-year-old girl with the Chiari II malformation.
On a hypnogram, a sleep cycle is usually around 90 minutes and there are four to six cycles of REM/NREM stages that occur during a major period of sleep. Most SWS occurs in the first one or two cycles; this is the deepest period of sleep.
17 Φεβ 2022 · Sleep stages are usually depicted in a hypnogram, showing the progression of the sleep stages over time (Fig. 2). Additionally, standard overview statistics can be calculated (Table 1). These statistics, often referred to as ‘sleep architecture’, are typically assessed in clinical care and have been used in many scientific studies.
Currently, the field of sleep science broadly generalizes a typical sleep progression as Wake (W, on the hypnogram axis) to Stage 1 (1) to Stage 2 (2) to Stage Slow-wave (S) back to Stage 2 and then Rapid Eye Movement (R). The progression makes up one sleep cycle, which lasts approximately 60–90 min and repeats through the night.
21 Ιουν 2023 · The first sleep cycle in the figure is the progression from stage W to stages N1, N2, and N3, the deepest sleep stage, and then transition to stage N2 followed by entry into stage R. Many physiology textbooks continue to depict the sleep stages in the hypnogram using the R&K manual sleep stages.
