2.3.2.3. Sleep hygiene. The Adolescent Sleep Hygiene Scale – Revised (ASHS-r) was used to measure how often sleep hygiene behaviours or events occurred during the previous two weeks (timescale adapted as per SCI – see above). This comprises 24 items, with each item rated on a 6-point scale (from 1 [never, 0%] to 6 [always, 100%]).
The Sleep Hygiene handout provides research-based tips for getting a better night’s sleep. Some of the tips include maintaining a regular sleep schedule, consuming caffeine only in the morning, and following a healthy diet.

Scoring of the Adolescent Sleep Hygiene Scale (ASHS) • The ASHS provides 8 subscale scores and an overall sleep hygiene score. • Higher scores indicate better success on each of these dimensions of sleep hygiene. • Response options are scored as follows: o Never (6 point) o Once in Awhile (5 points) o Sometimes (4 points)
