13 Ιουλ 2009 · But here’s a new idea called the SmartPlug which has improved shore power connections for boats and marinas by making both sides safer. Due to its sleeve and secure locking mechanism, SmartPlug’s patented design protects against the common causes of marine fires and electrocution – loose connections, overheating, stray current and corrosion.
13 Μαΐ 2010 · SmartPlug engineers have devised a four-stage approach that addresses these issues and protects against overheating. The SmartPlug system can be retrofitted to an existing shorepower cords boat end.
25 Απρ 2024 · Switching to Smart Plug would require not only new inlets on the boat, but 4 new connectors that I would retrofit on both my home and travel shore power cord sets. This comes in at just under $400 per port.
In my experience nearly everything about the SmartPlug is extremely well thought out and constructed specifically for the marine environment. This 30A inlet is highly polished cast, not stamped, 316L stainless steel. If you break the cover off a Smart Plug inlet you’re also going to have a nice hole in your boat… (wink).
29 Δεκ 2018 · The Smart Plug is sold as a set of socket to install in your boat, and plug to put onto the boat end of your shore power cable. You don't change the marina end of the shore power cable (a blue 16 amp plug in my case).
28 Ιαν 2014 · I read up on, and became a Smart Plug fan soon after my new-to-me boat was launched. The B30ASSY install, and the M25 Alternator Bracket Upgrade, were two of the first improvements that I made to the boat. Interestingly, the price of the B30ASSY seems to have DROPPED (by ~$10) since 2010!
27 Δεκ 2011 · I’ve used the euro standard IEC 60309 plugs and found them very easy to use, wiring them up to my shore power cord in a few minutes. They’ve proided a secure connecton and survived tropical rains. They may not have all the thermo protection of the Smart Plug, but they are widely available, an accepted standard and very inexpensive.
