The term social meaning identifies the constellation of traits that linguistic forms convey about the social identity of their users—for example, their de-mographics, personality and ideological orientation.
This book presents a new framework for studying the relation between lan-guage, ideologies and the social world. The framework combines two main ideas. The first idea is that tools from formal semantics can be used to formal-ize theories from sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology and feminist/gender studies.
