Softball Pitching Rules. Pitching is perhaps the most crucial position in softball. The pitching motion and mechanics are so different from baseball that it is no wonder that every year there is confusion as to what constitutes a legal or illegal pitch.
This Rulebook contains the Official Playing Rules of Slow Pitch Softball (“Official Rules”) of [the World Baseball Softball Federation (WBSC), [formerly operating as the International Softball Federation (“ISF”)].
Pitching Regulations. Prior to pitching, the pitcher must take a position with shoulders in line with first and third base with the ball in the glove or pitching hand, and with the hands separated. While in this position, the pitcher shall take (or simulate taking) a signal from the catcher.
