The Gotei 13 (護廷十三隊, Goteijūsantai; lit. "13 Division Imperial Guards"; Viz "Thirteen Court Guard Companies") is the primary military branch of Soul Society and the main military organization most Shinigami join after graduating from the Shin'ō Academy.

Yuichi and Mei arrived at the Academy wearing the institution's uniform, which resembled the standard Shinigami shihakushō uniform but had a different color scheme. The women's uniform included a red shitagi (undershirt), a white kosode (shirt) with red stripes, red hakama (trousers), white socks, and sandals.
Shinigami enter and leave Soul Society by unlocking the Senkaimon and using a Jigokuchō. Pluses, on the other hand, enter Soul Society through the ritual of Konsō. When people die, they are assigned a number to a part of Soul Society according to when they died.
The Ninth Division follows the traditional organization of a Gotei 13 Division. After the defection of Kaname Tōsen the Division was run by the next highest authority in the 9th Division, Lieutenant Shūhei Hisagi .

It's clearly shown in chapter 673 and 674, the moment ichigo was face to face with yhwach, renji, rukia and uryu are shown to surprised by his reiatsu. And chapter 674 shows that even byakuya and Toshiro were aware of ichigo's reiatsu being as massive as yhwach's.
The Gotei 13 serves as a military force with its primary responsibilities consisting of: The defense of the Seireitei, the center of Soul Society. The deployment of Division members into enemy territory for combat operations. The deployment of Task Forces as defensive measures in the Human World.
