Artists can now create visual images in response to sounds, allow the audience to control the art through pressure pads, sensors and voice activation, and in examples like Jem Finer’s Longplayer, extend a sound so that it resonates for a thousand years.
The term sound art began to be used loosely in the avant-garde scene in the 1970s to describe sound-based projects that weren’t traditional music. Still, there are many overlaps with contemporary classical composition, experimental music and improvisation.

8 Φεβ 2017 · I highlight examples of sound art that draw on site‐specific spatial organization of nonmusical sound and explain how this practice challenges theoretical distinctions that have traditionally distinguished music from visual art. Currently, it is possible to distinguish three cages for sounds.
Sound Art is a recent development in contemporary art, with some of the oldest examples of Sound Sculptures dating back to the 1910s. It began when visual artists began to use sound (as opposed to normal definitions of music) and listening as a important element in their art.
