On September 8, the US troops enter southern Korea. Informed by outgoing Japanese colonizers who branded all Korean nationalists as communists, the US occupying authorities refuse to recognize KPR as a legitimate government representing the Korean people and instead set up the U.S. Military Government in Korea (USAMGIK) in its place.
The Korean War began in 1950 after North Korea invaded South Korea on June 25th. Several key events led to the outbreak of war: 1. Increasing distrust and tensions between the US and USSR after WWII led to the division of Korea along the 38th parallel in 1945.
