The South Mountains, carved out of the Blue Ridge by erosion, are a broad belt of peaks and knobs rising abruptly from a deep valley. These steep, rugged mountains encompass 100,000 acres (404 km 2) in Burke, Cleveland and Rutherford counties.
FIRE DEPTS/AGENCIES. We consist of fifteen Fire Departments (Volunteer and Paid), one Level 2 Hazmat Team and two Forrest Rangers. On a yearly average, our departments respond to over 3,000 fire calls. Non-Emergency Phone Numbers are listed below.

Fire Station #2 is located on White Pine Drive at the entrance to Veterans Park South and is nestled next to the Grey Eagle Arena. This station is staffed 24 hours a day, call pending and houses Engine 42 and Tanker 42.
