Fire District 3 is located in Southern Oregon in the beautiful Rogue River Valley. Jackson County borders California to the south and is nestled between the majestic Cascade and Siskiyou Mountain ranges.
The South Mountains, carved out of the Blue Ridge by erosion, are a broad belt of peaks and knobs rising abruptly from a deep valley. These steep, rugged mountains encompass 100,000 acres (404 km 2) in Burke, Cleveland and Rutherford counties.

Firefighters battle terrain and winds in an attempt to corral a fire of about 1,000 acres that has been burning since Sunday in the mountains of North Carolina.
South Mountains State Park is under long-term closure until further notice. The park sustained a lot of trail damage due to Hurricane Helene. Please do not attempt to enter the park, even on foot, as conditions are unsafe.
