Southern Railway 722 is a class "Ks-1" 2-8-0 "Consolidation" type steam locomotive built in September 1904 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works to run on the Murphy Branch, where it hauled freight trains between Asheville and Murphy, North Carolina for the Southern Railway (SOU).
7 Ιουν 2023 · Known as a Ks-1 type engine, this 2-8-0 Consolidation locomotive was modified by the Southern Railway in the 1920s. 722 is known for it’s iconic green paint scheme which GSMR plans to continue. 722 will undergo a conversion from coal to oil burner during the rebuild process, like 1702.

Saw on Facebook that the Great Smokey Mountains Railway has started on restoring Southern 2-8-0 722 and confirmed it'll be converted from coal to oil burning and that they plan to keep the engine in the green and gold paint.
