Woman's Missionary Union (WMU) is an auxiliary of the Southern Baptist Convention that was founded in 1888. It is the largest Protestant missions organization for women in the world.
Throughout her career, Lottie Moon wrote letters home urging Southern Baptists toward greater missions involvement and support. One of those letters triggered Southern Baptists’ first Christmas offering for international missions—enough to send three new missionaries to China.
13 Δεκ 2021 · Since the 1888 formation of the Woman’s Missionary Union, as a way for women to support missions, women have led women. In fact, many men in 1888 found the union to be a threat.
Lottie was impatient with the usual restraints that women faced “and deliberately moved her China mission out of reach of male authority”! Furthermore, she went so far as to persuade Southern Baptist women back in the USA to form their own missionary organisations.
17 Φεβ 2022 · The Southern Baptist Convention’s Woman’s Missionary Union began 133 years ago in the hearts of visionary leaders to pray and systematically raise money for missions. The WMU’s focus is to make disciples of Jesus who live on mission and has enabled women to share the good news of Jesus and serve others in his name.
