Our Patsy and Bedevere were played by girls and we didn't do much doubling, so we had a cast of about 36 with everyone having at least a few lines. As far as showcasing the ensemble, I think Spamalot is among the best shows out there.

Spamalot is suitable for children - the 12 year old might nor get it all but he wil still laugh his a** out. But the ticket prices that's something else - since the show is sold out for many month you can only find tickets at premium prices.
