Probability: Types of Events. Life is full of random events! You need to get a "feel" for them to be smart and successful. The toss of a coin, throw of a dice and lottery draws are all examples of random events.
Some words have special meaning in Probability: Experiment: a repeatable procedure with a set of possible results. Example: Throwing dice. We can throw the dice again and again, so it is repeatable.
Events in probability are the different types of events that form a set of outcomes of a random experiment. Understand events in probability using solved examples.
The Probability of an event is the number of ways event can occur divided by the total number of possible outcomes. Learn more about events and types of probability events with examples here.
The probabilities of events that are certain or impossible are easy to assign; they’re just 1 or 0, respectively. What do we do about those in-between cases, for events that might or might not occur? There are three methods to assign probabilities that we can choose from. We’ll discuss them here, in order of reliability.
11 Ιαν 2022 · Determine if two events are mutually exclusive and/or independent. Apply the "Or" rule to calculate the probability that either of two events occurs. Apply the "And" rule to calculate the probability that both of two events occurs. Many probabilities in real life involve more than one event.
Example: King OR Queen. In a Deck of 52 Cards: the probability of a King is 1/13, so P(King)=1/13; the probability of a Queen is also 1/13, so P(Queen)=1/13 . When we combine those two Events: The probability of a King or a Queen is (1/13) + (1/13) = 2/13; Which is written like this: P(King or Queen) = (1/13) + (1/13) = 2/13
