I'm quoting @kelann08 from his helpful comment here , and he is indeed correct, as this is stated on page 18 of the English rulebook for both versions of the game (worded differently though). So according to the rules, you never choose to attack capital ships. You attack the opponent base, and damage goes to capital ships in play first.
