30 Οκτ 2023 · Accessory nerve (lateral-right view) Function. The cranial accessory nerve has a similar function to the vagus nerve. It carries motor innervation to the pharyngeal constrictors, larynx, and muscles of the soft palate (except tensor veli palatini). The spinal accessory nerve is a purely motor entity.
The cranial component innervates the muscles responsible for controlling swallowing and vocalization. Spinal Component: The spinal component of the accessory nerve originates from the upper spinal cord, specifically from the region of the spinal cord known as the spinal accessory nucleus.
17 Ιουλ 2023 · The accessory spinal nerve or XI cranial nerve is essential for neck and shoulder movement, the intrinsic musculature of the larynx, and the sensitive afferences of the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid musculature.
Accessory nerves (XI) The primary function of the accessory nerves (XI) is motor, to the muscles of the neck and upper back. These nerves originate in the motor nuclei of the spinal cord and medulla. They pass through the jugular foramina, between the occipital and temporal bones.
The spinal accessory nerve, considered part of the eleventh cranial nerve, provides motor innervation to sternocleidomastoid and trapezius. A comprehensive literature review and two cadaveric dissections were undertaken. The spinal accessory nerve originates from the spinal accessory nucleus.
17 Ιουλ 2023 · An unusual nerve that contains both cranial and spinal roots. The accessory nerve provides motor function (movement) to two muscles essential to neck and shoulder movement, the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) and the trapezius, as well as to the larynx (voice box) and other structures in the throat.
12 Οκτ 2023 · The spinal accessory nerve innervates two muscles – the sternocleidomastoid and trapezius. Sternocleidomastoid Attachments – Runs from the mastoid process of the temporal bone to the manubrium (sternal head) and the medial third of the clavicle (clavicular head).
