Clusters of tiny, somewhat inconspicuous, two-lipped, red-purple (sometimes white or pink) flowers appear at the stem ends in late spring to early summer. Plants grow vigorously in optimum growing conditions, but are easy to control and are not considered to be too aggressive.
Lamium galeobdolon, commonly known as yellow archangel or golden dead-nettle, is a stoloniferous spreading perennial of the mint family (opposite leaves and square stems) that typically grows to 9-15” tall but spreads by stem fragments, rooting at the nodes, and spreads to 18” wide or more.
Lamium maculatum ‘Beacon Silver’ (Spotted Dead Nettle) is a semi-evergreen, mat-forming perennial noted for its foliage of heart-shaped, silvery-gray leaves adorned with narrow green edges. Small, hooded, lavender flowers open in attractive whorls at the end of the stems in late spring and continue sporadically into fall.
Lamium, commonly called spotted dead nettle, is a demur low-growing evergreen in mild climates. Its silvery mottled leaves and trailing stems can highlight shaded beds and walkway edges. Clusters of pink, white, or yellow miniature snapdragon-like flowers give spotted dead nettle extra appeal.
Most lamium varieties have variegated leaves, with lime green, yellow or white variegations. It is a beautiful plant with colorful spring flowers. During the blooming period you will see small clusters of purple flowers, white flowers or pink flowers that appear from spring through late summer.
