Changing your USB mode to "compatibility" will run the USB 3 at USB 2 speeds and that should fix your remote lag at least it did for me. I purchased a 16GB Shield last week and also purchased a 250GB SSD and external USB 3.0 enclosure, which I formatted as adaptive storage, same as you.
