  3. St. Croix Island International Historic Site (est. 1600s) — on St. Croix Island in the St. Croix River. The island lies in Washington County, Maine (U.S.), with interpretive sites operated by the U.S. National Park Service on the mainland in Calais, and by Parks Canada in Bayside, New Brunswick .

  4. Saint Croix Island International Historic Site. In June of 1604, French nobleman-courtier Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons and his expedition established a settlement on St. Croix Island. In the milder months, they built houses, a storehouse, kitchen and chapel, and formed strong Aboriginal alliances.
