Saint Lawrence, one of he most venerated Roman martyrs, celebrated for his Christian valor. He was executed during the persecution under the Roman emperor Valerian, and tradition holds that he was burned to death. His feast day is August 10, and he is the patron saint of the poor and of cooks.
Saint Lawrence or Laurence (Latin: Laurentius, lit. "laurelled"; 31 December 225 [1] – 10 August 258) was one of the seven deacons of the city of Rome under Pope Sixtus II who were martyred in the persecution of the Christians that the Roman emperor Valerian ordered in 258.
