The Meselson–Stahl experiment had a powerful psychological effect on the field of genetics and molecular biology. It was the first experimental test of the Watson and Crick model, and the results clearly showed that DNA was behaving in cells exactly as Watson and Crick predicted.
“In the midst of this gloom and doom, Matt came in,” Stahl says. Meselson had finished his main research project and was ready to tackle Watson and Crick's hypothesis. Thus, Stahl changed his focus from bacteriophages to DNA replication.
18 Απρ 2017 · In an experiment later named for them, Matthew Stanley Meselson and Franklin William Stahl in the US demonstrated during the 1950s the semi-conservative replication of DNA, such that each daughter DNA molecule contains one new daughter subunit and one subunit conserved from the parental DNA molecule.
