19 Οκτ 2023 · Most stapelias available commercially are relatively easy to care for when they are watered sparingly, receive warm temperatures with bright filtered sunlight (add a grow light if needed), and grow in fast-draining soil. As with most succulents, overwatering leads to root rot and death.
Stems grow erect, branching mainly from the base, and develop a reddish color in strong sunlight. Stapelia s have unusual, often large, five-lobed flowers that may be red, purple, or yellow, often with interesting banded patterns. The surface can be brightly polished or matted with hairs.
Optimal growing temperature: 60° to 65°F (16° to 18°C). Shape and size:Erect, angular, coarsley toothed fleshy leaves; stems branch from the bases to form large clumps; grows 6 to 8 inches (15-20cm) tall and 12 inches (30cm) wide. Flowers: Diurnal, star-shaped often foul-smelling, solitary or clustered flowers pollinated by flies.
