Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is the most clinically important Staphylococcus in dogs and a common commensal that can be found in or on a large percentage, if not all, healthy dogs, and a smaller percentage of cats.
One CoPS of emerging clinical importance is Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, a member of the Staphylococcus intermedius group (SIG) (Table 1 and Fig 1). S. pseudintermedius is a significant pathogen in canines, an agent of infections in humans, and is the focus of this “Pearl”.
2 Ιουλ 2015 · In this article we discuss dog-related infectious diseases as well as measures to minimize dog-associated illness (e.g., do not disturb sleeping dogs; HIV-infected persons who wish to acquire a puppy should have the dog’s stool checked for Cryptosporidium).
2 Δεκ 2021 · Almost all of the infections were seen in dogs, and the MRSP isolates belonged to several clones, most notably sequence type (ST) 71, with variable multidrug resistance (MDR) determinants. The most common manifestations of infections in humans are SSTIs including dog bite wounds [10, 11, 18, 19].
S. intermedius is not a common zoonotic pathogen in humans; however, several studies demonstrated that this bacterium is a potential pathogen associated with dog bite wounds and cellulitis can develop in inflicted humans [42,43]. This pathogen should be discriminated from staphylococcus aureus.
