When choosing a Career, the player may choose four of the eight starting Career Skills and gain one rank in each of the selected Skills free (they do not spend experience points). They may not choose the same Skill more than once.
Choosing A Career and Specializations. At this stage, the player chooses his character's career (which remains with the PC permanently) and his starting specialization (which may be only one of many the character undertakes over the course of his story).
Career Skills. Astrogation, Gunnery, Piloting (Planetary), and Piloting (Space) Talent Tree. A SRD for Star Wars - Edge of the Empire for use by my friends.

Careers. Edge of the Empire has six careers, or character types, available to players. The player chooses one career for their character and gains all of the skills associated with that career.
Although a lot of canon characters have official stats, they don't have careers which muddles things (and even FFG caveats that the characters' stats would change depending on the situation they're encountered in), but it's a good starting point.
