6 Μαρ 2024 · New research has identified a shift in gender balance when exploring differences in representation between female and male athletes in online sports news. However, it also highlights the biases that still exist in the coverage of female athletes and that more work needs to be done in this area.
Women are still underrepresented and often working in male-driven teams; Concerning behind-the-camera roles, the highest female presence was registered among producers (34%) and screenwriters (28%). The gender gap was most pronounced among cinematographers and composers (10%).
Women were 35.2% of development/pilot writers and of 29.6% of screenwriters. BIPOC folks were 23.3% of development/pilot writers and 22.6% screenwriters. BIPOC women made up 9.9% of development/pilot writers and 9.6% of screenwriters. BIPOC men made up 13.2% and 13%, respectively.
29 Μαΐ 2020 · Among males, who accounted for 227 (81%) of the 264 athletes, African Americans and Latinos each represented 6 sports, most of which involved team competition, while White males represented 21 sports, many of which were individual.
The study’s main finding is that women are still underrepresented and often working for male-driven teams. The highest female presence was registered among leading roles (39%), producers (34%) and screenwriters (28%), whilst the lowest among cinematographers (10%) and composers (10%).
According to data from the years 2017-2021 (both inclusive), women represented only 25% of all European feature directors, compared to 75% for men; for screenwriters, women account for 28%, 34% for producers, 39% for lead roles, 10% for composers and 10% for cinematographers.
Among behind-the-camera roles, the highest female presence was registered among producers (35%) and screenwriters (29%). The gender gap was most visible concerning cinematographers and composers, as women represent 11% and 10% of active professionals respectively.
