Yes, that's a real IRS number. It's a call back number for certain notices. You'll eventually get the same people as 800-829-1040 but it narrows the phone tree. You can even type that number in on their website and you'll see tons of links showing it's a real number.
28 Δεκ 2023 · Call us at 800-829-0115 to request a replacement check. If you have the expired check, please destroy it. When you receive the new check, remember to cash it.
3 Ιουλ 2024 · If you lost your refund check, you should initiate a refund trace: Use Where's My Refund, call us at 800-829-1954 and use the automated system, or speak with an agent by calling 800-829-1040 (see telephone assistance for hours of operation).
The notice had a AUR control number and a phone number: 800-829-8310. So I call the number listed on the notice to find out what is the discrepancy with what I filed. The lady on the phone basically just repeated the information on the notice and told me I was responsible for verifying myself.
