Subic Bay is a bay on the west coast of the island of Luzon in the Philippines, about 100 kilometers (62 mi) northwest of Manila Bay.
In 1542, this grandson of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi-- the Spanish explorer who established Spain’s control and dominion over the Philippines --recognized Subic Bay’s tremendous potential as a fine shelter for shipping during a visit to the province of Zambales to establish the Spanish crown.
From being an important strategic U.S. military installation – the biggest in Western Pacific for the US – Subic was transformed into a freeport zone, and now a recognized booming haven for tourism and commerce.
This portion of the site is for documenting the various activities and changes that occured at Subic Bay, Cubi Point, San Miguel and surrounding areas, such as Olongapo, Subic City and other communities and areas that were a big part of the History and Memories of both, the Serviceman and Population.
