Sukumar Ray FRPS (Sukumār Rāẏ ⓘ; 30 October 1887 – 10 September 1923) [ 3 ] was a Bengali writer and poet from British India. He is remembered mainly for his writings for children. He was the son of children's story writer Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury and the father of Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray.
Sukumar Ray was a Bengali humorous poet, story writer and playwright who mainly wrote for children. Born in a Bengali family on 30 October 1887 to Bidhumukhi and Upendrakishore Ray, Sukumar Ray is a second children of six and illustrator of literary nonsense and nonsense rhyme in Bengali literature. Satyajit was just two when Sukumar died in Kolkata at the age of 35 in 1923. Nine days later, ‘Abol Tabol’, which he had painstakingly edited and proofed from his sickbed, was published.
