I recently mentioned to someone that the best "champagne" I ever had was at a lunch at Le Perroquet in the 70s. We ordered it because it was only $10 a bottle, and because, much to our surprise, it was made in Illinois.

Of course these numbers are the result of my own estimates and there may be several “French eateries” that escaped my sometimes fuzzy memory lane.
