19 Οκτ 2021 · If you see a product labeled “sushi rice,” it is most likely a non-Asian/Japanese brand that thinks any rice that Japanese eat is for sushi (that label says it all). Not to mention, they treat their customers like idiots because they are a “marketing for dummies” poster child.
SincerelySpicy. • 9 mo. ago. I don't think you really need a kit. The only item that i would highly recommend buying for rolls that you might not already have on hand is a makisu (the bamboo mat). Otherwise you can easily use things you already have at home for preparing the rice.

The best type of rice to use when making sushi is japonica or shari rice, which is a short-grain variety from Japan.
The hard parts of making sushi are all in the prep. Making the rice, cleaning the fish, cutting everything. Cutting the fish correctly vs poorly actually does change the flavor.
