Intended audience: Grades 7-12 and adults. Issued also as videorecording. Takes a look at the largest freshwater swamp in North America, the Okefenokee. Visits the vast peat bogs which are rich in animal and plant life and shows the change in the ecosystem from lake and open wetlands to eerie cypress groves.
Swamps and marshes provide valuable resources to a wide range of animal species – both carnivorous hunters and herbivorous grazers. Some animals, such as the African lechwe, have unlocked an underutilized niche, allowing them to thrive on the riches here.
