Swine influenza is a highly contagious acute respiratory viral disease of swine that is caused by swine influenza virus (SIV), a type A influenza virus of the family Orthomyxoviridae. It is generally accepted that swine influenza resulted from adaptation of the type A influenza virus that caused the human influenza pandemic during World War I.
1 Νοε 2024 · In this study, we review the state of the scientific literature on the zoonotic spread of swine influenza A viruses among humans, their circulation in swine populations worldwide, reverse zoonosis from humans to swine, and their role in interspecies transmission.
As such, swine and their meat products have the potential to introduce new zoonotic diseases into populations via multiple routes of transmission. Here we discuss several examples of zoonotic diseases of swine origin, reviewing diseases with bacterial, viral, or parasitic causes.
