5 Αυγ 2021 · The global burden of the endemic mycoses (blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, emergomycosis, histoplasmosis, paracoccidioidomycosis, sporotrichosis, and talaromycosis) continues to rise yearly and these infectious diseases remain a leading cause of patient morbidity and mortality worldwide.
The systemic mycoses are infections caused by fungi that enter the body through an internal organ or a deep focus, such as the lungs, the digestive tract, or the paranasal sinuses. Infections can spread through the blood, causing disseminated disease with frequent skin involvement.

17 Οκτ 2018 · The aim of this review is to guide physicians in the diagnosis and management of systemic endemic mycoses causing pulmonary disease. It should raise awareness about important disease characteristics (Tables 1 , 2 ), diagnostic tests (Table 3 ), and antifungal treatment (Table 4 ).
Key messages. The endemic mycoses cause disease in both immunocompetent and immunocompromised hosts. The geographical range of the endemic mycoses continues to expand, following their recognition in non-traditional regions. Several novel species have been recently described in the endemic mycoses.
Psoralen-UV-A therapy was the most often used treatment method for stage Ia or Ib disease. Less frequently used methods included topical corticosteroids, UV-B therapy, topical mechlorethamine hydrochloride, and, in cases of significant skin lesions, complete skin electron beam irradiation.
