  1. T4 is the main form of thyroid hormone circulating in the blood. A Total T4 measures the bound and free hormone and can change when binding proteins differ (see above). A Free T4 measures what is not bound and able to enter and affect the body tissues. Tests measuring free T4 – either a free T4 (FT4) or free T4 index

  2. • Hypothyroidism: normalization of TSH within age-specific reference range • Thyroid cancer: undetectable to 0.5 -2 mIU/L, depending on disease status and clinical risk

  3. 1 Μαρ 2014 · Discordant results between TSH, T4 and T3 may be because of various conditions like subclinical hypo- or hyperthyroidism, non-thyroidal illness, drugs etc. Beside that antibody interference and...

  4. 28 Απρ 2018 · Whilst free T3 (fT3) is measured, it is less relevant than free T4 (ft4). This is because the thyroid releases T4 and T3 at a ratio of about 20:1 respectively, with T3 mainly being produced by peripheral conversion of T4. As a result, T4 is a much better marker of thyroid function.

  5. There are six patterns of thyroid function tests. Low TSH, accompanied by raised free T4 and T3 concentrations (panel 2), indicates primary hyperthyroidism, most commonly caused by Graves’ disease, multinodular goitre, or toxic nodule. In these cases TSH should be undetectable and thyroid tissue should not be tender.

  6. FT4: this is free thyroxine, the main hormone your thyroid makes. FT3: this is free triiodothyronine, another hormone your thyroid makes. Normal results. If you have a copy of your test results, it will show your results and a normal range for each test.

  7. 6 Δεκ 2023 · This means that very small changes in serum free T4 concentrations induce very large reciprocal changes in serum TSH concentrations. As a result, thyroid function is best assessed by measuring serum TSH, assuming steady-state conditions and the absence of pituitary or hypothalamic disease.
