21 Δεκ 2022 · The tetanus shot, also called the Tdap vaccine, protects against tetanus by making sure the body has plenty of antibodies to fight the bacteria that cause it. Common side effects of tetanus vaccination include redness, swelling, and pain at the site of the shot.
CDC recommends 1 dose of Tdap for healthcare personnel who have never received Tdap and who have direct patient contact. You can administer Tdap regardless of interval since the last tetanus toxoid- and diphtheria toxoid-containing vaccine.
Women previously vaccinated with Tdap should not get this dose. A pregnant woman who is due for a routine 10-year Td booster, or for whom tetanus toxoid is indicated for wound management, should receive Tdap. Please see the CDC’s website for the most current ACIP recommendations.
