This is a greeting to say "nice to meet you" in Japanese. This is a shorter version of. "はじめまして、おめにかかります。. (ha ji me ma shi te, o me ni ka ka ri ma su) It means "this is the first time for me to meet you". However, you don't need to remember the longer version because only "はじめまして" is used now.
