New Jersey requires all teachers at public K-12 schools to be certified based on the New Jersey State Board of Education (NJDOE) teacher certification standards. The main steps for the traditional path to teacher certification in New Jersey are: Complete a bachelor’s degree with a state-approved teacher preparation component.
NJDOE Licensure and Credentials has two rules in place for students who require flexibility for either their GPA or certification test requirements. Please consult the NJDOE for details:
CEAS (Traditional Route): The Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) is a credential issued to an individual who HAS completed a teacher preparation program and has met the basic requirements for certification including academic study and applicable test requirements.
